Don’t adjust your web browser — we know it’s February 2010, but as we move through the first couple months of this new decade, we can’t help but reflect on some great music from the not-so-distant past.
Since 1986, Roadrunner Records’ US contingent has proudly carved itself a niche in hard and heavy music. In later years we’ve branched out to radio rock and even the alt/indie field, but when it came time to rate the Top 10 albums of the first decade of this millennium, our staff and artists alike kept with Roadrunner’s traditions, and focused mainly on metal – with a few surprises in the mix.
Though you’ll find a lot of Roadrunner releases in our consensus list below, know that this Top 10 was compiled of over 40 entries from Roadrunner employees around the globe and even includes the opinions of artists like Max Cavalera, Corey Taylor, Matt Heafy, Joel Stroetzel and much more.
So here’s the Top 10 that most of us agreed on, and judging by our tie for the number four position and three-way tie for number 9, it wasn’t all in perfect harmony.
1. Killswitch Engage – The End of Heartache
2. Killswitch Engage – Alive or Just Breathing
3. System of a Down – Toxicity
4. Deftones – White Pony4. At the Drive-In – Relationship of Command
5. Opeth – Blackwater Park
6. Tool – Lateralus
7. Mastodon – Crack the Skye
8. Glassjaw – Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence
9. Slipknot – Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)
9. Radiohead – In Rainbows
9. Iron Maiden – Brave New World
10. Muse – Absolution

So sorry for the lack of updates at this site – I didn’t mean to completely neglect it. Won’t happen again. Regular updates to resume shortly!
Stone Sour wished fans a “Happy Holidays.” In honour, Corey and Roy performed “Delightful Shoes” in a Pop Up Video Style!
Readers of the website, http://metalhammer.co.uk/ have voted Slipknot’s Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses (2001) album of the decade.
Congratulations of Slipknot, couldn’t agree more!
The short film for ‘Snuff,’ directed by M. Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan and photographer P.R. Brown, is filled with complex imagery. The dark film depicts Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor in a way you’ve never seen him before: so desperately enthralled, he actually becomes the one he loves.
Subtleties fill the film — which also features an appearance from Malcolm McDowell. The scenes unfold in apartment number 009. A skull sits next to a snow globe. Sun peaks through the apartment windows at different points, providing the concept of a time shift. It’s not clear if any of this particularly matters, but the sum of the parts seem to indicate that it does. A lot.
In the end, the short film for ‘Snuff’ provides a haunting look into the obsessed mind of a melancholy lover, heartbroken over a lost paramour. Perhaps we all live double lives in the end.
Last night, Corey Taylor and his Junk Beer Kidnap Band opened the show for Camp Freddy at The Roxy on Sunset. Below you can watch a video of #8 performing the song “Would?” (Alice in Chains) with Camp Freddy.
As rated by, AOL Radio listeners Slipknot was selected “best metal of the 2000s.”
1) Slipknot: ‘Before I Forget’ (2005)
In the video, Slipknot shed their disguise, maskless and in normal clothes. However, their identity was never revealed thanks to clever camera angles. Not only is ‘Before I Forget’ AOL Radio’s best metal song of the decade, but it also won the band its’ first Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

Five years ago, on December 8th, 2004, Corey and Slipknot lost one of their best friends. Darrell Lance Abbott, also known as Dimebag, was killed while performing live with his band Damageplan.
Born in 1966, Dime was one of the best guitarists ever. He was a huge KISS fan, his idol was Ace Frehley. Dime changed the world with his band Pantera. Along with Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown and his brother Vinnie Paul, Dime recorded 5 amazing albums, which show the genius and insanity of Pantera and Dimebag Darrell himself.
Corey Taylor
“I lost a really good friend on my 31st birthday. Dimebag was the kind of guy you could hang out with for 2 seconds and feel like you knew him your whole life. He made you laugh, made you drink, but most of all made you feel special. I’m really really going to miss him, but the one thing we will always have is his music.”Clown
“It’s just upsetting how the world is – the need and the necessity to override the value of life. From my whole (SLIPKNOT) family, I would like to tell . . . Vinnie and everyone else how sorry we are.”Paul Gray
“He will truly be missed. Dime was one of the first people to show Slipknot respect as a band and that meant so much because we all looked up to him. I remember all the good times I was able to spend with him over the years from tearing it up at the Ritz Carlton playing our version of WWF wrestling with Joey (Jordison) and Bobby Tongs to getting drunk with the outlaw at noon. He was there for me when I was going through struggles and problems in my life, always willing to listen and give me good advice. He was a good friend and I will miss him greatly. My condolences go out to Vinnie, Rita and the entire Abbott Family.”
We here at Corey Taylor Fan wanted to wish Corey a very Happy 36th Birthday! With any luck, Corey was able to spend today with friends and family.
Hope he had a great day and many more fantastic (and successful) years to follow!
